The Boten-Vientiane Railway in construction witnessed the great breakthrough on April 15th, 2019 with two major tunnels, Natong 2nd & Nadui 2nd holed through, built by a subsidiary of CREC, China Railway No.5 Engineering Group Co., Ltd.

The Boten-Vientiane Railway is a landmark project featuring regional interconnectivity under the “Belt & Road” Initiative. The Railway is vital for transforming Laos from a land-locked country into a land-linked country. It starts from Boten in northern Laos and reaches Vientiane, the capital of Laos, in the South. The total length of the whole railway line is 414km, including 62km bridges and 75 tunnels, with a total length of 198km. The Project commenced in December, 2016 and is scheduled to open to traffic in December, 2021.
