Anthem of CREC—“Trailbreaker”
May 23 marked the eve of the Eid al-Fitr, a traditional festival observed in Bangladesh. However, Bangladeshi employees couldn’t go home to celebrate the festival with their families because of travel restrictions for the need to prevent and control the COVID-19 epidemic.
In this context, the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project Department of China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (MBEC) organized a series of activities themed “Eid al-Fitr at Construction Site.” The company not only prepared Eid al-Fitr feast for its Bangladeshi employees working for the project, but also granted them special subsidies totaling 7.18 million takas within the three-day holiday according to the standard of 1,000 takas (equal to two days of spending of a local average four-member family) per person per day.
During the Eid al-Fitr, the project’s trade union also organized a campaign themed “Caring for Bangladeshi Workers and Celebrating the Eid al-Fitr Together” to help local employees solve their difficulties in daily life and during the epidemic and relieve their homesickness.
To help poor villagers in nearby communities secure enough food and clothing, MBEC donated two tons of rice, 1,000 bottles of edible oil (two liters each bottle), 1.8 tons of wheaten flour and one ton of sugar as a way to offer assistance to locals. (By Guo Lijing and Zeng Xianli)
