Anthem of CREC—“Trailbreaker”

As days of torrential rainfall drenched multiple regions in South China, the Yangtze River Basin is being threatened by serious flood. While the water level keeps increasing, over ten companies under China Railway Group Limited (CREC) including China Railway First Group (CRFG), China Railway No.2 Engineering Group (CREGC) and China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group (MBEC) braced for the flood and organized its staff to arrange sandbags, guard floodwalls and guarantee telecommunications and transportations in the affected areas.

On July 8, the water level of the Changjiang River in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, broke the highest record in 1998, the year when a catastrophic flood disaster happened. Facing the dangerous situation, workers of the Nanchang-Jingdezhen-Huangshan Railway project of China Railway No. 3 Engineering Group (CR3) immediately responded. Thirty-eight people of its staff were deployed to build barriers to hold back the flood. At 12:00 AM in the morning of July 9, the heightened dams successfully withstood the first flood peak. At 5:00 AM, the water receded to safety level.

On July 10, a makeshift ferry route in Jiujiang City of Jiangxi Province was submerged by rising water. Fifty-seven workers of China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCEG) at the project of Houniao Scenic Town in Wucheng, an ancient town in Jiujiang, worked against time to improvise a bridge within only ten hours. In addition, they employed three excavators to open up a temporary route and prepared two inflatable boats to guarantee local transportation.

Faced with severe flood, Wuhan Railway Electrification Bureau Group under CREC (WREB) is ready to protect local telecommunications from being swamped. When practicing routine inspection, the workers of the No.1 Telecommunications Company, a subsidiary of WREB, found that five base stations were threatened by the torrential rain and it could cause mass network malfunction. The company instantly organized its staff to move away the base stations and build temporary machine rooms to secure smooth running of local networks. After over eight hours of endeavor, the five base stations had all been transferred into three improvised small machine rooms on the river bank, recovering the telecom transmission along the banks.
