The International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) announced on September 14 the list of winners of the 2021 FIDIC Project Awards in Switzerland. Twenty-two high-quality construction and infrastructure projects from China, France, Canada, Australia, India and other countries were recognized with the awards, including 14 Awards of Merit, seven Awards of Excellence, and one Outstanding Project of the Year. The “Chengdu-Guiyang High-Speed Railway,” entered by China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group, was the only railroad project to win an Award of Excellence.

Chengdu-Guiyang High-Speed Railway runs 648 kilometers through the transition zone of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, where there are difficult terrains with a complex geology. Engineering and construction workers overcame the constraints and obstructions of deep gorges and canyons as well as landslides, rock falls and karst landform, to complete the project, reflecting the highest technological level of China’s mountainous high-speed railroad construction.

FIDIC is an authoritative non-governmental international organization in the global engineering consulting industry, which sets international industry standards and represents the highest level of the industry. Known as the “Nobel Prize” in the engineering consulting sector, FIDIC Project Awards celebrates engineering projects that make outstanding contributions to the global economic and social development and exert influence worldwide. Previously, China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group had been honored as FIDIC Outstanding Project of the Year three times (Chongqing-Lichuan Railway, Guiyang-Guangzhou High Speed Railway, and Xi’an-Chengdu High Speed Railway) and won one Award of Excellence (Yunnan-Guangxi Railway).
