On September 10, Bi Yanchun, Chairman of China Railway International Group Co., Ltd. (CRIG), paid a courtesy call on Constantino Chiwenga, First Vice President of Zimbabwe, in Beijing. The First Vice President was visiting China to attend the 2026 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS). The two sides had a cordial and friendly exchange on advancing cooperation on key projects and further deepening practical cooperation in areas such as infrastructure and mineral resources.

First Vice President Constantino Chiwenga stated that Zimbabwe and China are good friends enjoying mutual trust. In recent years, the two countries have continued to enhance mutual trust and achieved fruitful results in practical cooperation across various fields. He spoke highly of China Railway Group Limited (CREC) and China Railway International Group Co., Ltd. (CRIG) for their long-term presence in and deep involvement in Zimbabwe's market and local economic development, and expressed satisfaction with the phased achievements of their cooperation projects. He noted that Zimbabwe is taking a coordinated approach to advancing infrastructure modernization and the industrialized development of its advantageous mineral resources, and has instructed relevant ministries and commissions to accelerate the implementation of key projects. He expressed appreciation for CREC's comprehensive strengths in full-chain management and technology in the railway and rail transit sectors, as well as its achievements in implementing major railway projects worldwide. He welcomed CREC and CRIG to continue leveraging their technological and management advantages and actively participate in the construction of relevant projects, so that the outcomes of bilateral cooperation can benefit the Zimbabwean people at an early date and inject new momentum into the continued deepening of the China-Zimbabwe all-weather community with a shared future.

Bi Yanchun reviewed the two calls paid by Chairman Chen Wenjian of CREC on President Emmerson Mnangagwa to discuss cooperation, and briefed on the latest progress, phased results, and follow-up implementation plans for advancing key cooperation projects in line with the spirit of the talks. He stated that after years of development, China's railway system has developed mature practices and a well-established regulatory framework in railway construction, technical upgrading, and operations. CREC has participated throughout the six upgrading and renovation of existing railways in the history of China's railway development, accumulating extensive experience from preliminary survey and design to later-stage engineering and construction. CRIG stands ready to fully leverage CREC's outstanding strengths in railway construction and the upgrading and renovation of existing lines, actively participate in the construction of relevant key projects, fully support Zimbabwe in upgrading and enhancing its national transport infrastructure and in developing and utilizing related mineral resources, contribute to Zimbabwe's realization of Vision 2030, and contribute to promoting high-level win-win cooperation between China and Zimbabwe.
