Recently, tunneling construction on the Guangdong Water Resources Allocation Project around Beibu Gulf (hereinafter referred to as the "Huanbei Guangdong Project") has seen a string of victories. On Construction Lot A5, the "Yuehai Huanbei No. 3" open-type TBM achieved a monthly advance of 745 meters. On Construction Lot B4, the "Yuehai Huanbei No. 8" double shield TBM successfully completed its first drive section.
As a backbone project of China's national water network, the Huanbei Guangdong Project features a total water conveyance line length of 490 kilometers. Construction Lot A5 is located in the core section of the Yunkai Mountains, with a total length of 15.1 km, of which 7,279 meters is driven by TBM. The Hejiang inverted siphon tunnel on Construction Lot B4 is situated along the Gaohe Trunk Line, with a total length of 22.55 km. It adopts a combined construction method of "TBM + drill-and-blast," with the TBM-driven section measuring 10.426 km. The first drive section, TBM8-1, extends 7.98 km.

As the only large-diameter open-type TBM on the entire project that was assembled and launched inside the tunnel, "Yuehai Huanbei No. 3" achieved an outstanding monthly advance of 745 meters in September, setting a new monthly record for large-diameter open-type TBMs on the Huanbei Guangdong Project. The overall project progress is now 196 days ahead of the construction schedule.
The "Yuehai Huanbei No. 8" TBM has successfully arrived at the receiving shaft on Lot B4, marking the smooth breakthrough of the TBM8-1 section — the first drive section on this lot. During tunneling, it set a record of 750.6 meters for the largest monthly advance achieved by a double shield TBM on the entire project.
Upon completion, the Huanbei Guangdong Project will significantly enhance water supply security in Western Guangdong, put an end to the centuries-long history of severe drought on the Leizhou Peninsula, benefit 18 million residents along the route, and provide solid support for coordinated regional development.
