Bianyuzhou Yangtze River Bridge, the first cross cable-stayed bridge in China, was put into operation on December 30, when the section connecting Anqing and Jiujiang along the Beijing-Hong Kong High-Speed Railway opened to traffic.

The bridge was designed by China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute Co., Ltd. and contracted by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd. China Railway Hi-Tech Industry Co., Ltd. also contributed to the construction. All of these three companies are subsidiaries of China Railway Group Limited.

The total length of the bridge is 4,258 meters. The part over the branch waterway in the south was a 672-meter double-towered, double cross cable-stayed bridge supported by steel box girders. It is the first bridge in China whose stay cables are arranged crosswise every 72 meters. With two high-speed railway lanes and two passenger-freight lanes, the bridge boasts the longest span and highest operation speed in the world.
