The World Tunnel Congress 2019 was held by International Tunneling & Underground Space Association (ITA) on May 8th. YAN Jinxiu, a female tunnel expert from China Railway Science Research Institute, was elected the new President of ITA. She is the first female President of ITA, and it is also the first time for Chinese tunneling expert to take this position.

The Congress Site
ITA, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, was founded in 1974. As a nonprofit NGO, it is an international academic organization of tunnel and underground engineering, and one of the most influential academic organizations in the world. In the conference, there were deputies from 78 member states, YAN won the election finally. It is a recognition of the hard work and efforts she has made in this field.
