More than 100 special lights in Ban Sen tunnel connecting the bridge over the Mekong River in Luang Prabang, Laos, were all lit up on January 24, marking the first successful trial delivery of current to a tunnel along the China-Laos railway in Laos.
The power supply project of the Boten-Vientiane section of the China-Laos railway project was carried out by the CREC Wuhan Electrification Bureau.
The tunnel measures 3.49 kilometers in length and is a one-way tunnel. It is equipped with 139 lights connected by various low-voltage cables with a total length of 17.6 kilometers. There are also 4,359 cable racks and 13 switch boxes. The successful delivery of current provides a model for future tunnel lighting projects. (By Deng Jia and Liu Ming)
