The IBC is a prestigious international academic event dedicated to bridge engineering. Sponsored by the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania (ESWP), it boasts global influence in the realm of bridge engineering. Inaugurated in 1988, the annual IBC Awards has been hailed as the “Nobel Prize for Bridges.” At present, it consists of seven awards items. In addition to the five aforesaid awards, there are also the Arthur G. Hayden Medal (for outstanding achievements in bridge engineering demonstrating innovation) and the Abba G. Lichtenstein Medal (for outstanding achievement in bridge engineering demonstrating artistic merit and innovation in the restoration and rehabilitation of bridges of historic significance).
