The final piece of rail track was laid at the construction site of the Chinese section of the China-Laos Railway in the suburbs of Yanhe Town, Yuxi City, Yunnan Province, on June 3, marking the completion of the first tunnel in the Chinese section of the railway.

The China-Laos Railway will connect Kunming in southwestern China with Laos' capital city, Vientiane. It is the first international railroad that is mainly invested by the Chinese side and completely adopts Chinese technical standards and equipment since the launch of the Belt and Road Initiative. China Railway No.1 Group Co., Ltd. (CR1) is responsible for constructing the 508-kilometer Yuxi-Mohan section in the Chinese territory. Construction of the railway began in December 2016 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2021. After it is put into operation, the travel time by train from Kunming to Vientiane will be shortened to one night. (By Liu Shunliang)
