The heritage site of Bicun Village is located in Xingxian County of Luliang City, Shanxi Province. An ancient stone settlement of late Longshan Culture near the Yellow River, the site is an important archaeological discovery for the Chinese civilization. A project contracted by China Railway Group Limited (CREC), the Jingxing Highway was originally planned to cross the heritage site. As the archaeological value of the heritage site was later gradually discovered and recognized, the company decided to change the highway’s route to protect the ancient village.
The heritage site of Bicun Village is one of the places where prehistoric jades were found in northwestern Shanxi Province, and the discovery provides important materials for the study of the emergence of China’s early dynasties.
The rerouting resulted in an increase of 2 kilometers of the highway’s length and an additional investment of 200 million yuan. Constructors needed to re-select locations of bridges and evaluate the risks of floods in the new locations, which may delay the construction of the Yellow River Grand Bridge and the completion of the project’s overall construction targets.

Thanks to its painstaking efforts, CREC successfully finished the rerouting and re-selection of new locations of Yellow River bridges to make sure that the construction of main piers of the Yellow River Grand Bridge could be completed before the flood season, which guaranteed that the Jingxing Highway could be completed and opened to traffic as scheduled.
