On March 6, the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia and the Ethiopian Federal Police Commission signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on establishing security safeguarding mechanism for major projects under the Belt and Road Initiative. The MoU was signed between Demelash Gebremichael, commissioner-general of the Ethiopian Federal Police Commission, and Zhao Zhiyuan, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia.
During the ceremony, which was held at a station along the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia handed over a batch of security equipment to the Ethiopian Police Commission to help with the security and safe operations of the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway.
Jointly built and operated by China Railway No.2 Group and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, the 752.7-km-long Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway connects Ethiopia and Djibouti and is the first transnational electrified railroad in Africa. It began commercial operation in 2018.
