On the afternoon of March 8, local time, the fifth-anniversary celebration and medal ceremony of the operation and maintenance project of the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway was solemnly held at Labu Station. Zhao Zhiyuan, Ambassador of the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, Yang Yihang, Counsellor of Economy and Commerce, Ahimed Shide, Minister of Finance of Ethiopia, Denge Boru, Minister of State of Ministry of Transport, and Hassan Houmed Ibrahim, Minister of Infrastructure and Equipment of Djibouti. Relevant leaders of Ethiopia-Djibouti Railway Company, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Ethiopia Branch, Ethiopia Branch of China Railway No.2 Group, and Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway Operation and Maintenance Company attended the event. At the meeting, medals were awarded to employees of China, Ethiopia, and Djibouti who made outstanding contributions to the construction and operation of the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway.
The construction of the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway started in 2012 and was officially opened in 2018. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the opening of the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway. Today, the production and operation of the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway are fruitful, the localization process is accelerating, the transport service projects are becoming more and more abundant, and the passenger and freight revenue is growing rapidly, which significantly promotes the regional economic and social integration, trade and industrial facilitation between Ethiopia and Djibouti. At the same time, it guarantees people's livelihood, promotes the employment of local people, and provides great convenience for the residents of villages along the line to travel.
