On April 18, local time, the opening ceremony of the China-aided Niue Ring Road Upgrading Project was held by the The First Engineering Bureau of CREC. Prime Minister Taglaj of Niue, Minister of Infrastructure Tatui, Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand (Cook Islands, Niue) Wang Xiaolong, Minister Counsellor Chen Zhiyang and relevant heads of The First Engineering Bureau of CREC attended the ceremony.
The project is essential to implement the infrastructure cooperation plan in the "China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development and Cooperation Forum". The project is about 46 kilometers long, covering the north-south traffic artery of Alofi, the capital of Niue, and connecting the Niue government office area, wharf, airport, hospital, school, and other vital areas. After the completion of the project, it will significantly improve the traffic and safety situation in Niue, provide convenience for residents to travel, and play a positive role in promoting the island's economic development and social life.
