CREC Upgraded the Old TBM/Shield Equipment — — "Shaoshan No.16" Set Out Again
Source: Date:2023年10月15日

In mid-September, the "Shaoshan No.16" double-shield TBM (Hard Rock Tunnel Boring Machine) of China Railway No.5 Engineering Group passed the factory acceptance by a joint acceptance team composed of six units, including China Railway Design Corporation Limited. and Shenzhen Metro Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd.. This heavy construction equipment will be re-employed. This year, six idle TBM/shield equipment of CREC have been re-employed through self-upgrading and leasing operations.

"Shaoshan No.16" TBM, with an excavation diameter of 6.5 meters, was purchased in August 2018 and served the second phase of Shenzhen Metro Line 6, setting a record for the smallest turning radius of TBM construction in Asia at that time with a turning radius of 260 meters. By March 2019, the total excavation mileage of "Shaoshan No.16" was 2400 meters. Subsequently, they were idle due to the differences between specifications and models and subsequent contracted projects.

To maintain and increase the value of assets, the Shield Business Department of China Railway No.5 Engineering Group actively seized the opportunity of domestic rail transit construction, vigorously developed a TBM/shield equipment leasing business, tracked TBM/shield equipment construction projects in many ways, and revitalized existing assets. In March this year, Shaoshan No. 16 found a suitable reuse project: to the Xiyong vehicle base of Shenzhen Metro Line 8 Phase III of China Railway No.3 Engineering Group.

Despite the meticulous care provided by "Shaoshan No.16", prolonged idleness has inevitably led to some parts of it aging. In response, the Shield Business Department has taken great care in repairing it and has conducted a comprehensive and systematic evaluation, testing, upgrading, and optimizing its core components and key parts. This approach has saved millions of yuan compared to returning the equipment to the factory for maintenance.
