On November 4, good news came from the site of the tailing’s transportation adit project in Dai County, Shanxi Province. The hard rock roadheader "Kuangjian" independently developed by China Railway Hi-Tech Industry Co, Ltd. under CREC completed the tunneling task, marking the success of the first hard rock roadheader applied in the field of iron ore construction in China.

The tailings transportation adit project in Dai County, Shanxi Province is the first project in China to apply TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine), supporting construction equipment for iron ore.
Facing the long-distance downhill excavation, reverse slope drainage and complex engineering geological conditions of the whole line of the project. "Kuangjian" has used the innovation of operation mode in the drilling and blasting chamber with extremely narrow space, successfully realizing the completion of the tailings conveying adit project on schedule.
For a long time, non-coal mine tunnels are mainly constructed by drilling and blasting method, which has low construction efficiency, high safety risk, poor working environment and great interference to adjacent projects. Compared with the traditional method, the highly mechanized TBM method has the advantages of high tunneling efficiency, wide application range and a high degree of automation.
