On August 15, China Railway No. 2 Group commenced construction on the exit of the tunnel in Section 10 of the Kathmandu-Terai Fast Track (KTFT) EPC Highway Project in Nepal, marking the start of the main construction phase for this section.
The tunnel, the only one in Section 10, features a dual-bore design with a combined length of 4,474 meters for both the left and right tunnels. It is a critical control project within this section. Section 10 has a total length of 4.079 kilometers, which includes the tunnel, viaducts, roadbed, pavement, slope protection, and other associated works. The planned construction period is 1,000 days.
The KTFT Highway project starts in Kathmandu and ends in Nijgadh, in the southern Terai plains. Spanning a total length of 72.5 kilometers, it is Nepal's first true four-lane highway.
