After a relentless five-day battle, overseas staff from China Railway Seventh Group, a subsidiary of CREC, joined flood fighting and rescue efforts near the village of Miteja along the Matandu River in Tanzania's Lindi province at approximately 22:00 local time on May 13.
Recently, Tanzania in East Africa has been enduring extremely severe convective weather. On May 7, local time, a breach occurred in the embankment of the Matatu River near the village of Mitaiga, posing a significant threat of flooding to nearby villages. Additionally, the primary road connecting the Lindi province to the capital, Dar es Salaam, was damaged, severely disrupting transportation.
In response to an urgent rescue request from the Ruvuma Provincial Highway Bureau, the 35 km Road Project Department of China Railway Seventh Group, a CREC subsidiary stationed in Ruvuma Province, Tanzania, acted swiftly. Led by the region's deputy commercial manager, they dispatched eight engineering vehicles overnight to the affected areas.
After traversing a distance of over 830 kilometers, the rescue team arrived at the disaster site the following morning and promptly embarked on rigorous rescue efforts. Collaborating with other Chinese-funded and local enterprises, China Railway Seventh Group persevered through numerous challenges, including weak communication signals and arduous sand and gravel mining, ultimately succeeding in blocking the river mouth, thereby preventing neighboring villages from suffering extensive flooding.
