On December 26, 2023, after eight years of hard work, the modernization project of Shargun Coal Mine in Uzbekistan, which China Railway Tunnel Group constructed, was officially put into operation. It is the first underground mine in the country with modern production capacity.
At the operation ceremony of the project, Governor Kosimov of Surhan River State pointed out that the successful commissioning of the project not only guaranteed the coal supply in Ukraine but also created jobs for the local people. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to China Railway Tunnel Group for its professional construction ability and performance organization ability.
Shargun Coal Mine Project is located north of Surkhandarya State of Uzbekistan, adjacent to Tajikistan and Afghanistan. It is an essential and node project of economic and trade cooperation between China and Uzbekistan, part of the Belt and Road Initiative and Uzbekistan's vital energy construction project. After the project is put into operation, the annual production capacity of Shargon Coal Mine will be greatly increased to 900,000 tons, which will provide a solid boost to Ukraine's economic development.
