Honiara Airport Upgrade Project in the Solomon Islands Completed and Began Operation

On June 5 local time, a completion ceremony was held for the runway surface and lighting system upgrade project at Honiara Airport in the Solomon Islands, constructed by the South Pacific Regional Headquarters of China Railway Construction Engineering Group. Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Communication and Aviation of the Solomon Islands, Kologeto, attended the ceremony along with several cabinet ministers and Chinese Ambassador to the Solomon Islands, Cai Weiming.

Prime Minister Kologeto pointed out that the project is not only a critical piece of transportation infrastructure, but also a symbol of friendship, public benefit, and development. With its operation, the airport’s capacity will be significantly improved, playing a key role in promoting international connectivity and economic prosperity for the Solomon Islands. He expressed gratitude to China Railway Construction Engineering Group for their outstanding contribution and looked forward to deepening cooperation in infrastructure development.

Located in Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, the airport project involved resurfacing a 2,200-meter-long runway, repaving with asphalt concrete, renewing runway markings, and upgrading the runway lighting system.
