President of Kiribati Attends Completion Ceremony of Phase I of Southern Hospital Renovation Project

Tabonous, Kiribati — On August 25 local time, the Phase I project of the Southern Hospital renovation in Kiribati, constructed by The First Engineering Bureau of CREC, was successfully completed. Kiribati President Taneti Maamau, Minister of Health Bus Nawan, Tabonous Mayor Betairo Buaramo, along with representatives from government departments and local elders—over one hundred people in total—attended the completion ceremony.

In his speech, President Maamau expressed heartfelt gratitude to The First Engineering Bureau of CREC for completing Phase I of the project with high quality and efficiency. He emphasized that the Kiribati government has always prioritized improving people’s livelihoods, and in its 20-year national development plan, it will promote more projects in healthcare, housing, and transportation. He expressed hope that The First Engineering Bureau of CREC would continue to leverage its expertise, participate deeply in more livelihood projects in Kiribati, and inject strong momentum into local development.

It is reported that the Southern Hospital renovation project in Kiribati is planned to be implemented in three phases. Phase I focused on restoring the functions and improving the environment of the hospital’s core medical departments. Major works included roof replacement for key departments such as pediatrics, dentistry, emergency, and pharmacy, comprehensive repairs to the building’s interior and exterior, as well as partial interior decoration and renovation of the departments.
