On October 30 local time, the first gravel sub-base paving was successfully completed on the Mbujimayi-Kazadi to Ndoma Port Road Upgrade Project, a key infrastructure project under the China–DRC cooperation framework, marking the official entry into substantive construction.
The project extends 26 kilometers, starting from the N1 National Highway and ending at Ndoma Port. It is being built as a two-lane bidirectional road, with two typical cross-section configurations for rural and village areas. The pavement adopts a 3-centimeter double-layer asphalt treatment, and drainage ditches and sidewalks will be constructed based on terrain conditions to enhance road capacity and safety.
The China–DRC cooperation agreement was signed in 2008 by CREC, PowerChina and other Chinese enterprise groups with the DRC’s state mining company, covering infrastructure, mining, and hydropower. To implement the program, the two sides jointly established Sicomines S.A. as the project entity.
The road upgrade project is funded by Sicomines S.A. and constructed by China Railway No.8 Engineering Group. Once opened to traffic, it will benefit approximately 200,000 local residents and significantly improve conditions for cargo transport to and from the port.
