CREC National Rescue Team Repairs Avalanche-Hit Road Section at 4,500 Meters Above Sea Level
Source: Date:2026年04月15日

On March 17, due to continuous heavy snowfall, an avalanche struck a section of Provincial Highway S303 in the Tibet Autonomous Region at an altitude of approximately 4,500 meters, completely burying an area about 1 kilometer outside the Nyingchi-side exit of the Guozangla Tunnel and blocking traffic. The National Tunnel Emergency Rescue Team of China Railway No.2 Group in Tibet responded immediately and rushed to the site to carry out emergency operations.

Provincial Highway S303 is a vital trunk route connecting Sichuan and Xizang and serves as a key diversion corridor for National Highway G318. With the full resumption of work and production, the flow of people and materials intoXizang has continued to increase, leading to a significant rise in traffic volume and mounting pressure on road maintenance and accessibility. The avalanche-induced road blockage severely affected daily travel for local residents and posed a direct threat to the safe and efficient transport of goods into Xizang.

After five hours of continuous efforts, the Xizang Team of China Railway No.2 Group successfully reopened more than 500 meters of snow- and ice-covered roadway, clearing over 1,000 cubic meters of avalanche debris and eliminating various safety hazards on site, fully restoring traffic capacity.
