On August 5 local time, the first span of 40-meter T-beams for the Navuni Bridge under the Ghana NB Project, constructed by China Railway No. 5 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. , a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited(CREC), was successfully erected.
The Navuni Bridge is being constructed at the site of a local river crossing. The new bridge connects seamlessly with the existing roads at both ends, and the project has a total route length of 1.914 kilometers. The bridge has a designed total length of 200 meters, comprising five simply supported spans of 40 meters each, with a deck width of 12.5 meters. Its superstructure consists of 40-meter simply supported prestressed concrete T-beams. A total of 25 T-beams are to be installed across the bridge.
The successful operation completed the erection of the five T-beams for the first span, with each beam measuring 40 meters in length and weighing as much as 127.32 metric tons.As an important infrastructure project serving local communities in Ghana, once completed, the bridge will eliminate the long-standing reliance on dugout canoes for passenger crossings and ferries for transporting goods. It will provide safer and more efficient passage for people and goods, significantly improve travel conditions for communities along the route, enhance regional transportation connectivity, and contribute to local economic development.
