Kelantan, Malaysia — Recently, with the closure of the final cofferdam completed, the diversion works for Phase II of the regulating dam at the Nenggiri Hydropower Station in Kelantan, Malaysia, undertaken by the First Company of Shanghai Civil Engineering Co,.Ltd. Of CREC, were successfully completed four days ahead of schedule. The project is located in the upper reaches of the Betis River in the Gua Musang area of Kelantan. The region experiences high temperatures and heavy rainfall throughout the year, with extremely complex hydrological and geological conditions. The Phase II diversion works required the completion of multiple operations during an intermittent period of the rainy season, including river diversion, construction of temporary cofferdams and embankments, and closure of the main river channel. The construction window was short, safety risks were high, and coordination and organization were particularly challenging.
As a key project under Malaysia’s national energy development strategy, once completed, the project will provide additional clean power supply to Kelantan, effectively improve the supply-demand balance of the regional power grid, and promote local economic development.
