On May 12 local time, Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) visited the Kinshasa Ring Road Project, a flagship infrastructure project under China-DRC cooperation. The project is funded by Sicomines, implemented by Sino-Congolese Infrastructure Company (SICO), and constructed by Chinese enterprises including China Railway No.8 Engineering Group. During the visit, Prime Minister Tuluka inspected construction progress on site and witnessed the completion of the main structure of the K8+119 Medium Bridge.
During the site visit, Prime Minister Tuluka and her delegation received detailed briefings on construction progress, engineering technologies, quality and safety management, and localization efforts. They also inspected several key construction zones and highly commended the project’s advancement and management standards. The Prime Minister praised the advanced bridge-launching technologies and high-quality workmanship adopted by China Railway No.8 Engineering Group, noting that the Chinese construction team has efficiently advanced the project through its professionalism and technical expertise, providing strong momentum for the upgrading of Kinshasa’s transportation infrastructure.
Prime Minister Tuluka emphasized that the Kinshasa Ring Road Project is not only an important symbol of friendship and cooperation between the DRC and China, but also a “road to prosperity” and a “road to development” that will directly benefit local communities. She stated that the DRC government places great importance on the project and will continue to provide comprehensive support for its implementation. According to the Prime Minister, the project has already created a substantial number of local jobs and helped cultivate skilled technical personnel. Once completed, it will significantly improve the capital city’s transportation network, enhance regional connectivity, and contribute to the high-quality economic and social development of the DRC. She expressed hope that both sides would continue to deepen practical cooperation, deliver the remaining works to the highest standards, and achieve the early opening of the entire route for the benefit of the people.
The Kinshasa Ring Road is approximately 73 kilometers long and features a dual four-lane asphalt concrete roadway. Connecting the urban area of Kinshasa with dozens of surrounding towns and villages, the project includes five bridges and 94 culverts. It is the first major east-west arterial highway in the region to traverse heavily hilly terrain and is expected to play a vital role in improving regional transportation and economic integration.
