The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, whose design and construction involved China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute Co., Ltd., China Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CMBE), and China Railway Hi-Tech Industry Co., Ltd., has won the 2020 Outstanding Structure Award presented by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE). One of the highest distinctions awarded by the IABSE, the award recognizes the most remarkable, innovative and creative structures across the world. It was the third time that a project participated by CMBE won the award following the Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge and Nanjing Dashengguan Yangtze River Bridge.    

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the world’s longest sea-crossing link with the largest investment and the most challenges in construction throughout the history of architecture. CMBE is the contractor for the CB05 bridgework, which includes Jiuzhou Navigation Bridge, non-navigation arch bridge as well as short-span marine viaducts in ports of Zhuhai and Macao. With a total length of 6.653 kilometers, the bridgework accounts for one-third of the marine section of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. It was completed in 2015. China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute Co., Ltd. designed the Jiuzhou Navigation Bridge, non-navigation arch bridge in shallow water, the connecting bridge and marine viaducts in ports of Zhuhai and Macao. It was also responsible for the major engineering surveying, and supervised the construction of immersed tunnels. China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group Co., Ltd., a branch of China Railway Hi-Tech Industry Co., Ltd., was the producer of 180,000 tons of steelwork used in the largest CB01 project of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. China Railway Baoji Bridge Group Co., Ltd., also a branch of China Railway Hi-Tech Industry Co., Ltd., manufactured steelwork for the CB05-G2 project. China Railway Science & Industry Group Co., Ltd. developed special transportation equipment to transfer, transport and load the steel box beams.
