The Affiniam dam rehabilitation project built by China Railway No.8 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. in Senegal passed the acceptance inspection on September 18 local time, marking that China fulfilled its commitment to providing follow-up assistance for the dam which was built with the aid from China in 1984.

A key agricultural facility for Ziguinchor in southwestern Senegal, the Affiniam dam has played a great role in storing freshwater, boosting the development of agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery in upstream areas, and desalinating the soil. It was built in 1984 based on free assistance from the Chinese government. After decades of weathering, the part of the dam exposed to seawater had been eroded, resulting in a deterioration in functionality and reliability. In 2019, China Railway No.8 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. undertook the mission to repair the dam to ensure it continues fully leveraging its function to support the development of paddy cultivation and animal husbandry in the region.
