Mingzhuwan Bridge in Guangzhou, capital of south China’s Guangdong Province, completed closure on February 3. China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group Co., Ltd. and China Railway Jiujiang Bridge Engineering Co., Ltd., both under CREC, took part in the construction of the bridge.

Mingzhuwan Bridge

The bridge is located where five waterways meet at the heart of the Mingzhuwan comprehensive service area in Nansha District of Guangzhou. It stretches 9.1 kilometers and the main part measures 2.64 kilometers in length. With three trusses and six spans, the bridge features an arch measuring 109 meters in height and a main span measuring 436 meters, the longest of any bridge of its kind in the world. It has been designed with a double-layer structure. The upper layer is a two-way eight-lane road, while the lower has reserved two lanes on both sides. The bridge is located at the estuary of the Pearl River, which set high requirements in terms of resistance against typhoons and closure accuracy. (By Qian Banglei, Xu Xinxing, Ke Wen, Dai Wei and Yuan Ye)
