On February 4, the Changbai Interchange of Zhoudai Bridge, one of the three bridges of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Main Channel, was lifted into place, marking the completion of the Main Channel in east China’s Zhejiang Province. China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group Co., Ltd. (CRSBG), a subsidiary of China Railway Hi-Tech Industry Co., Ltd., participated in the construction of the project.

Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Main Channel

The Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Main Channel is the world’s longest islands-linking expressway and the largest cross-sea bridge group. Since its first steel box girder was erected on August 31, 2019, CRSBG has overcome various difficulties, such as curved bridge building, cross operations, and complex working conditions for manufacturing and transportation, and successively lifted and installed a total of 99 girders for South Passage Bridge, North Passage Bridge, and Changbai Interchange.

The project connects five islands, namely Fuchi Island, Zhoushan Main Island, Changbai Island, Daishan Island and Yushan Island. With a total length of 36.777 kilometers, it is expected to be connected with the Ningbo-Zhoushan Expressway after completion, allowing the Zhoushan Islands-linking project to cover eight islands and 10 bridges. (By Qian Banglei)
