On June 16 local time, Sino-Congolese Infrastructure Construction Company(SICO), a subsidiary of China Railway Resources Group, joined the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Chinese Medical Team in the DRC in a goodwill visit to the “Children's Smile Orphanage” Orphanage on the outskirts of Kinshasa, bringing care, support and warmth to the children.

Representatives from the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy in the DRC, the head of the Chinese Medical Team, executives and employee representatives from SICO participated in the event. During the visit, the delegation toured the orphanage’s classrooms, dormitories and other living and learning facilities, gaining a detailed understanding of the children’s living conditions, health and educational needs, as well as the orphanage’s operational situation and development requirements.

Medical professionals from the Chinese Medical Team provided free health examinations for the children, assessing their growth and development, offering guidance on hygiene and disease prevention, and distributing essential medicines and health education materials. The initiative helped promote healthy habits and safeguard the children’s well-being. SICO also donated daily necessities, including milk powder, flour, cooking oil and meat products, as well as school bags, stationery and toys, contributing to improved living and learning conditions for the children.

Ms. Lawrence, head of the orphanage, expressed her sincere gratitude for the long-term support provided by the Chinese side. She noted that Chinese enterprises have not only left a lasting mark on infrastructure development in the DRC but have also demonstrated a deep commitment to improving people’s livelihoods. The children, she said, have genuinely felt the warmth and friendship of the Chinese people, and she hopes future exchanges will further strengthen the bonds of friendship between China and the DRC among the younger generation.

During the event, the Chinese representatives interacted warmly with the children, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and strive to become future builders of the DRC. Participants noted that the visit embodied the principles of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith, as well as China’s approach of balancing justice and shared interests. They reaffirmed that SICO will continue fulfilling its social responsibilities as a state-owned enterprise, institutionalize its public welfare efforts, and support more “small yet impactful” livelihood initiatives that strengthen friendship between the peoples of China and the DRC and contribute to building a China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
