Racing Against Time to Improve Livelihoods and Keep Tourism Arteries Flowing

Recently, the Shuanghu Road section of the heating project in Burqin County, Xinjiang, constructed by The First Engineering Bureau of CREC, was fully reopened to traffic. The construction of the 509-meter pipeline trench was completed efficiently in just 55 days, ensuring smooth traffic flow ahead of the peak tourism season in June and providing greater convenience for nearby businesses and government offices.

Shuanghu Road is located west of the Burqin County Government complex and is lined with nearly 20 commercial establishments as well as public institutions such as the Taxation Bureau, Justice Bureau, and Archives Bureau. It serves as a key corridor for both government services and commercial activities in the county. The project involved the simultaneous installation of DN500 drainage pipelines and DN600 heating pipelines. Given the large pipe diameters, the complexity of overlapping construction procedures, and the critical period coinciding with spring snowmelt and preparations for the upcoming tourism season, the project faced significant schedule pressure.

To minimize the duration of road occupancy, the project team meticulously planned construction activities down to every meter of the pipeline trench. A combination of phased half-road closures and assembly-line operations enabled seamless coordination among excavation, welding, inspection, and backfilling processes. By increasing manpower and equipment deployment and implementing around-the-clock shift work, the team accelerated progress while strictly adhering to safety and quality standards. As a result, the entire 509-meter pipeline installation—from ground-breaking to full road restoration—was completed in only 55 days, significantly shortening the conventional construction timeline.

“I was worried that the construction barriers would affect business in May, but I didn’t expect the road to reopen so quickly. The pavement is smooth and tidy, which is really reassuring,” said Ms. Ma, a local shop owner along the street. Residents visiting the Taxation Bureau and Archives Bureau have now resumed normal travel routes, while traffic has returned to an orderly flow without the inconvenience of detours.

As a key project supporting Burqin County’s heating infrastructure, the completion of this pipeline section will not only enhance heat distribution capacity and improve the local drainage system, but also free up valuable road space ahead of the upcoming tourism peak season through its efficient “fast-in, fast-out” construction approach. The project stands as a tangible demonstration of the commitment to improving public welfare and serving local communities.
