On August 12 local time, coinciding with the 27th International Youth Day, the China-Tanzania Youth Development and Exchange Dialogue was held at the Nyerere Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. More than 100 representatives from the governments, enterprises, universities, and media of China and Tanzania attended the event to discuss youth development and explore the future of bilateral cooperation.
Speakers included Chen Mingjian, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Tanzania; Yu Yingfu, Deputy Director of the China International Communications Group; Frederick Salukele, Director of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Division of Tanzania’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology; Yu Changxue, Director of the Center for International People-to-People Exchange of the Ministry of Education; and Jiang Yuntao, Chairman of China Railway Construction Engineering Group East Africa Company and President of the Association of Chinese-Funded Enterprises in Tanzania.
Ambassador Chen Mingjian noted in her remarks that young people carry the future of China-Tanzania relations and are an important force in building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era. China and Tanzania have a deep-rooted traditional friendship, and youth exchanges between the two countries continue to deepen. She put forward three expectations for exchanges between Chinese and Tanzanian youth: first, to be “dream chasers” who share common aspirations and integrate their personal ideals into the broader cause of national development and revitalization; second, to be “bridges connecting hearts” through mutual learning and cultural exchanges that continuously strengthen the friendship between the two countries; and third, to be a “vital force” for common development by actively participating in vocational skills training and engaging in cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, the digital economy, and green development. She also noted that 2026 is the “China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges,” and that young people from both countries should continue to carry forward the deep friendship between China and Tanzania.
Yu Yingfu, Deputy Director of the China International Communications Group, attended the event and delivered remarks via video. He put forward three proposals: build dreams through skills by leveraging various projects to help Tanzanian youth acquire professional skills; enrich hearts through mutual learning by conducting two-way cultural exchanges with an open and inclusive attitude; and build strength through communication by encouraging young people from both countries to become storytellers and communicators of China-Tanzania friendship.
Salukele, representing Tanzania’s education authorities, expressed gratitude for China’s long-standing support for the development of Tanzania’s education sector. Tanzania hopes to continue deepening cooperation with China in areas such as vocational education, school-enterprise cooperation, and youth training, while establishing more platforms for youth interaction. The Center for International People-to-People Exchange of the Ministry of Education, Tanzanian universities, and Chinese-funded enterprises in Tanzania all expressed their commitment to continuing to promote regular exchanges between young people from the two countries.
At the event, the “Chinese Masters, Tanzanian Legacy” Youth Skills Exchange Program was officially launched, providing a new platform for skills training and school-enterprise collaboration between Chinese and Tanzanian youth. During the roundtable dialogue, representatives from universities, enterprises, and youth groups from China and Tanzania engaged in in-depth discussions on issues including joint development of vocational education, support for youth employment, and joint training programs between schools and enterprises. At the conclusion of the event, Chinese and Tanzanian youth jointly sang the local friendship-themed song “AMANI,” creating a warm and harmonious atmosphere.
Focusing on youth development and practical cooperation, the dialogue further strengthened the youth foundation of China-Tanzania friendship through diverse forms of skills training, people-to-people interaction, and industry collaboration, injecting youthful momentum into all-weather China-Tanzania cooperation in the new era.
