China’s First Long-span Steel Box Arch Bridge Built atop a Metro Station Opens to Traffic

  The Huangmugang Comprehensive Transport Hub, China’s first long-span steel box arch bridge built atop a metro station, opened to traffic on January 28. The project was jointly carried out by the China Railway Southern Investment Group Co., Ltd. And China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group Co., Ltd., both subsidiaries of CREC.

  The Huangmugang permanent bridge in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, is a pivotal benchmark project launched by the Shenzhen Metro Group. It serves as a transfer station for the existing Line 7, the newly built Line 14 and future Line 24. Measuring 289.9 meters in length, the bridge is on the top of a seven-storey transport hub. It is a steel box single ridge arch bridge with double cable planes. The main span is an X-arch structure with a length of 125 meters. The bridge structure is supported by concrete and steel pillars mounted on the transfer beams of the underground metro station. It is the first long-span steel box arch bridge built atop a metro station.
